Reviews of Oh Orwell: “… There are so many musical bursts of colour on Oh Orwell that not even a kaleidoscope could contain Plumes…” (Dominionated)
“…Oh Orwell is one of the year's best albums and a great example of sincere, introspective avant-pop at its finest.” (Exclaim!)
Review of Folk Songs and Future Loves:
"...Charnley does a magnificent job of filling the shoes of Cathy Berberian, for whom Berio originally recomposed this compelling selection of American, Armenian, French, and Azerbaijani songs. One has to pinch oneself when the album closes on a lone Charnley original, the piano ballad “Oh, Orwell,” following the six-song Berio suite. Luciano himself would be proud. (Musicworks)
Listen to Plumes' debut
Review of Plumes (eponymous debut):
"...With an eight-minute, Debussy-inspired, fully-orchestrated centrepiece based upon the Greek myth of Hero and Leander, composer Holbrook and singer/songwriter Charnley are operating near Sufjan Stevens territory, but have also retained a sense of raw rock energy in propulsive tracks like "Phonebooth" and created a godly amalgam of Afro-funk and organic soul for "Away From Home," this year's grooviest track."
